Rational approach to chronic enteropathies in dogs

Chronic enteropathy (CE) is an umbrella term that encompasses chronic intestinal disease associated with clinical signs such as diarrhea, vomiting, hyporexia, abdominal discomfort, borborygmus, and/or weight loss. This webcast will provide a case-based overview on the rational diagnostic approach to dogs with chronic enteropathies and help you gain an understanding of:

  • the distinguishing characteristics of dogs affected with food-responsive, antibiotic-responsive or immunosuppressive drug-responsive enteropathies;
  • the optimization of selecting elimination diets containing novel, single protein sources, or hydrolysates, and the specific indications for implementing fat-restricted diets;
  • alternative strategies to antimicrobial therapy in dogs with chronic enteropathy, including the use of probiotics and synbiotics;
  • the most common causes for a lack of response to dietary, antimicrobial, or immunosuppressive drug therapy in dogs with chronic enteropathy.

A clinic approach to helping pet parents understand the nutritional challenges of a senior pet

We all love senior pets! Graying bodies, and sweet expressions of long-term devotion, and experiences. As animals age, their energy requirements along with how effectively their body utilizes that energy change. Looking beyond the gray hairs, what do we need to consider when determining an appropriate diet for senior pets? What nutrients should the calories come from? How can we determine if a bag of food is meant for a senior pet? Once some of the ins and outs of senior nutrition are understood, how do we instill the value of senior nutrition in our pet parents throughout every touch point with clinic team members?

During our one-hour webcast, Robin Saar, RVT, VTS (nutrition), will use some real-life examples to help guide veterinary teams through the nutrition journey with an aging pet and their pet parent.

After the webcast, stay on for an extra 15 minutes as Royal Canin will share the latest updates to their aging portfolio—from transitioning senior pets onto the right mature formula to addressing the unique needs of pets as they age with a range of individualized nutritional solutions.

Diagnosing and managing chronic enteropathy or IBD

Vomiting, diarrhea, and other gastrointestinal signs are among the most common reasons for dogs to require a visit to the veterinarian. In complex cases of chronic enteropathy, more commonly known as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), determining the cause of these signs is often a time-consuming task for veterinary professionals, as well as a frustrating and expensive process for pet owners.

During this webcast, internal medicine consultant, Dr. Johanna Cooper will discuss how Antech’s Canine CE-IBD Assay can help better diagnose and monitor patients with chronic enteropathy with a simple and affordable blood test.
